About FauxBlondes.com

The picture above is of Mira Sorvino. She is one of my favorite role models. Naturally a dark brunette, she went blonde because she wants to find her un-serious side. It’s not about being a “blondie”, but being a blonde in whole state of mind. Like her, I decided to go blonde because I could just lighten up and have fun! In spite what the majority of people think, it’s NOT about being “white washed” at all. I love being an Asian due to that “exotic” quality and it’s just hair color! It’s not always about what hair color you have but how you perceive yourself to have more fun. Saying that blondes only have all of the fun, that’s just a cliche because any color can have fun, but it’s HOW it makes me feel. I don’t care what others think of me. Like Jessica Alba. She’s famous for lightening her hair all way to glamorous blonde for the movie, Fantastic Four. Although she already returned to her natural brown hair, she’s still a fun and flirty woman. That’s the crucial part in the transformation process. Think of Tila Tequila, also known for her blonde locks. She has swung back and forth between light brown to blonde. Yet she’s as sexy as heck regardless of her hair color, it only enhances her looks to her advantage. Also, it’s fun to see people, whether they’re naturally dark blondes, brunettes or redheads, pick up a bottle and transform their locks to the pale shade of blonde or simply warm, honey blonde. Think of warm, vibrant golden blond. Sparkling sandy blond. Cool, airy platinum blond.

It is fairly unusual because it is not often you see an Asian with blonde hair since it is not common among Asians, who are mostly famous for their glossy, jet black or dark brown hair. But it became more popular amongst African-, Asian- and Latin-Americans (think of Shakira) now to dye their hair blonde. Right now, African-Americans are leading the pack as glamorous golden-haired beauties with their beautiful dark skin. Think of lovely Beyonce Knowles of Destiny’s Child and former Victoria’s Secret Model, Tyra Banks. Even males are into blond bleaching more than ever. That is why we’re introducing galleries with various folks dyeing their hair blonde that you can see for yourself and be used as inspiration.

I got inspired by going blonde so I decided to do it myself at first. Unfortunately, because I was naturally between level 1-2 on the scale out of 10 according to professional hair color level charts, which was a black/brown color, at home color wasn’t going to cut it. Level 10 means lightest blond (think of platinum blond hair). Even after using the drugstore product, Clairol’s Ultra Blue, it only lifted my hair to medium reddish brown, so I decided to go to salon to have my hair lightened. So, as a result, from there, I had a light brown hair with highlights. Ever since, I went lighter and lighter to very light blonde. It was a span over two years when I did all of the lightening and coloring before reverting to brunette.

As of 2009, I’ve gone blond past year. I went a medium/light brown for a while but I got bored with it. I decided to go right back to blonde past spring. After about two months, I went gradually lighter. Right now I’m more of an ‘Ivory Blonde’ because that’s how close it is.

2010: I’ve decided to stop coloring my own hair and have gone to a salon to do their magic. I’ve gone a little darker but nonetheless still a blonde. But soon I plan to go lighter again this fall. Stay tuned!
