Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo by John Frieda

John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo

It has been a while since I used any drugstore products. But I have used John Frieda products in the past. They were okay. Now, John Frieda has new products added to their line plus has a new look. The new products I’m reviewing are the John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening shampoo and conditioner.

After one use, they did a good job of actually making your blond hair a bit lighter. My hair was a bit over porous but the shampoo and conditioner did make my hair look lighter by lifting out the purplish undertone that grabs the color so it looks more blonder. It reduces color pigments in your hair. If you have any remaining purple undertones from hair dye or toner because your hair wasn’t absorbing the color properly, the products will do their job of fading the color a bit and bring out the blonde. No ammonia or peroxide involved so your hair will not be damaged if using these products.

These are also perfect for those who want to go lighter gradually without undergoing another bleaching or dying process for a while. This is different from preventing hair to become brassy. This only focuses on making your hair more sun kissed and blonder whether you’re a warm or cool blonde. It even works on darker blondes, golden blondes, or highlights very well. It’s even safe to use daily and it has wonderful moisturizing properties that moisturize while lightening up your hair. A departure from original formula when I used John Frieda years ago.

Roux Porosity Control and Corrector Conditioner

Porosity Control and Corrector Conditioner by Roux

There are many products on market that caters to dry and chemically processed hair, but Roux has been producing excellent products for chemically treated hair. Roux came out with a conditioner that will correct the porosity in bleached or highlighted hair, so the color won’t grab too much when using a toner or hair dye. Normally, when the hair is bleached or lightened, it would grab the base color, hence, the pale purply looking hair. No fear! This lavender hue will go away in a few shampoos. By using Roux Porosity Control & Corrector conditioner, your hair will become a little healthier in terms of condition and color. By using this conditioner at least few times a week your hair color will become more even and turn out much lovelier. It also works on any dyed hair because the dyes changes the texture of your hair and would benefit from extra loving care. For your convenience, you can purchase this product below.

I don’t think anyone has elaborated much on this process that whole much by the fact everyone’s hair is different. Make sure you write down what you have done with your hair past 6 months and ask for a professional consultation with your hair colorist/stylist at a local salon. While I’m going to focus on general steps and tips on preparing one’s hair for double process at home, which is known as bleaching/lightening and toning, I’m going to share my experience and steps that I undertook when I bleached and colored my hair. I don’t mean on the day you do your hair or at your appointment at the salon. But how to condition your hair prior to any double process or color treatment. This is only good for those who already have previously colored hair at least 3 months or longer (ideally, six months or longer). This is when things get a little tricky.

If you have colored your hair in any color but blonde past 3 to 6 months, then it is feasible to go blonde just after 6 months without new color job.

If you already have bleached or lightened your hair blonde between 3 to 6 months ago but performed a tintback with darker color (red, brown or black) during that time, it’s recommended you grow out your hair at least 6 months before undergoing another bleaching and toning plus trim off the ends to maintain the health of your hair.

Steps to take if your hair is ready to undergo another bleaching:

1. A week before your appointed day to bleach/lighten or color your hair: use a clarifying shampoo such as SUAVE SHAMPOO DAILY CLARIFYING to reduce previous tint as much as possible a few times (2 or 3 shampoo uses would be sufficient) during the week
2. Do not moisture too much with heavy conditioner or moisturizer or your hair shaft will be coated completely to prevent effective color removal and bleaching to achieve their job; use a light conditioner
3. Do not use any styling aids such as hair spray, mousse or gel nor leave-in conditioner of any kind at least a few days before; leave only freshly dried shampooed and lightly conditioned hair

Once you have follow the steps above, your hair is primed for color removal/stripping process (if you have a darker color left in your hair from previous color) or if your have since then chopped off your ends so it only leaves behind your virgin hair (never been colored since then), do proceed with the bleaching or double process.

Have fun with the process! It’s always exciting to go blonde after a long period of being in any other color but blonde.

This product has been on the shelf for a while. Some people have reviewed this product who have tried it. While I haven’t really tried this product by the fact it will not work on naturally dark hair but on those who are naturally blonde or already has been prelightened. But I wanted to list all hair color products that caught my eye and talk about them.

When I looked at those products by L’Oreal Superior Preference Dream Blonde, I thought the boxes were pretty by the design and how alluring they look at the eye level. But I know marketing too well so there’s no point of saying they’re the best or that anyone should try it because I always stick to what I buy at Sally Beauty or other salon beauty stores. But I wanna have fun and talk about what products are available out there and maybe one of you would be happy to share your experience trying those products. That’s the part of having fun with beauty and hair products!

Let’s talk about Dream Blonde’s Glistening Magnolia #11. I think it’s the lightest blonde shade they have. But they also have other 7 blonde shades: Evening Primrose (#7), Lily Blossom (#7A), Sparkling Lotus (#8A), Sunflower Princess (#8G), Sweet Buttercup (#8), Moonbeam Shine (#9), Pure Orchid (#9A), Alluring Peony (#10). One is a lightener called Ultra Lightening (#100). Letter A next to a number represents the color has ash base which will cancel out the yellow undertones that come with lightening. Letter G represents golden base which means the hair color will have golden and warm undertones, best suited to those people whose skin color under Fall season who look good with warm colors. #7 is their darkest level of blonde while #11 is their lightest level of blonde, which is known as extra light blonde and platinum.

The hair dye box comes with shampoo, conditioner, pre-color moisture infuser and continuous shine crème, which is an extra compared to other box hair color kits. Let’s see the product in pictures.
