Is everyone having a nice day? I am!

  • Mandy

I have been going blonde, bleaching (my hair was dyed black) and toning. I use professional products. My hair tends to look “cloudy”. Is it just build up? How do I get the shine without looking like rainbow brite, or without stripping the toner?

  • Amy

Can you define cloudy? Is the color drab? Sometimes using a clarifying shampoo a few times will get rid of color build up but it will strip the toner out, unfortunately. I highly recommend Aphogee Shine Therapy Polisher. http://www.aphogee.com/Gloss_Therapy_Hair_Polish.aspx

Thanks Amy! I think what I mean by “cloudy” is when I use a sheer pastel to tone the bleached hi-lights it works to take the “shock” out of them, but it’s not until several shampoos later that the “drab” goes away. Patience is highly recommended when trying to achieve a superstar blonde I suppose! sigh. ;)
With so many shiners out there it is hard to find the right one. I am caucasian (my natural color level is a 6). I’m sure once all the black is stripped (and several haircuts in the mean time), I can do away with all the toners and silver shampoos and finally have a beautiful “clear” blonde!
    Love this site!!!!!

Hey Amy :) This may be a stupid question but I am new to toners. I’ve been all different colors, my hairs been through a lot of bleaching, coloring, and heat. My question is: will wella’s ivory lady toner color my virgin level 8A roots or does it simply cancel unwatned tones? I ask because it seems to be a permanent hair color. I couldn’t lighten my hair to pale yellow because it was red previously and the orange stage was so hard to break, but the toner helped out a lot even though my hair wasn’t lightened to pale yellow. If the toner won’t color my roots, I will just buy a permanent blonde color. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Amy. I bleached my brassy brown hair yesterday and it turned out the color of the OUTSIDE of a banana peal mixed a little with the inside of a banana peal. I bought Wella Ivory Lady and was wondering if I should bleach it again or use the Wella toner now. If I were to use it now with out bleaching it again what would it look like. Thanks :-)

Also I have olive skin so I am trying to go for a color that would look the most natural/best with that skin tone.

  • Myah Rose.

Does it matter your skin color to become a Platinum Blonde and I have a brown skin complexion.

  • Amy

Normally, it doesn’t matter what skin tone you have. For example, if you tend to be on warmer side, you’d may look good in a golden/honey blonde. But if you’re on a cooler side, go with ash or platinum blonde. On the contrary to what people think, people can look good blonde only if they have the persona and features to go with it, not skin color. I hope that answered your question. Sorry for the very late response. =) Happy Holidays!

  • Amy

Go with ash or neutral blonde, either light or dark. Olive skin is on the cooler side of skin tone.

  • Amy

Truly sorry for the late response. I hope the color turned out okay by now. It’s pretty safe to use Ivory Lady on slightly banana yellow hair, that’s what I did anyway on some bits. Let me know how it turned out! Happy Holidays.

You can use it as a tint but be warned it won’t lighten your hair all way to pale blond, but a dark blonde color at most with a bit of warmth due to its ash base.
