Past a few months I’ve been experimenting with a few toners. In the past I’ve tried a several brands, especially Clariol Professional products. I always have liked their Creme Toners, but lately, I’ve been enraptured with Wella Color Charm Toners. Every time I use one of their toners, they always make my hair and scalp feel good without a bit of sting like with most permanent colors. Permanent colors tend to sting freshly lightened or highlighted hair because of higher content of peroxide and ammonia, but Wella Color Charm Toners don’t really sting my scalp and the color always turns out exactly what the swatch shows and the nice fact they’re considered medium hazard regarding health well being. I’ve been gradually going blonder, and I wanted something that isn’t quite platinum blonde (too bright for me) yet pale enough. Right now I’m in love with Wella Color Charm T10, known as Ivory Lady. It’s a pure, lovely soft pale blonde that’s not too yellowish or beige-y. It does look like a polished ivory. I’m totally enthralled with the results. I’ve used this toner a few times and the color has come out successfully. It looks great with my summer tan. However, at first, it may look a little dark/dull but will go away in a few shampoos, and then the color will turn out and look like a pure pale blonde. I’m totally loyal to Wella toners now, and I thought about trying Wella toner labeled T18 or known as ‘White Lady’, but I think it’s a little too white for me. I’m not ready to be a white blonde. But it might be next on my list to try.

I used your suggestion and used this color to tone out the brassiness. I left it on for about 15 minutes which was a bit too long as it was a bit violet and dark at first. But after a few shampoos it is now a great color.

  • http://www.faux-blondes.com Faux Blondes

Yes, all toners always turn out a little dark at first. I only left it in for 10 minutes max although the instructions said 30 minutes. After a few shampoos, it looks great. I will be posting a new entry soon about using temporary rinse next. I’m glad you took my suggestion and had a nice result! I appreciate hearing it from the others who have tried it.

  • Jo

Went to have my roots done and she used a pearl ash toner. Not really sure about it yet. I’ll wait a week and see I guess.

  • Jo

I had my roots done and went for a new toner colour. It’s a wella Kolestan 10NG with some strawberry blonde highlights through the sides and back, very lightly. I’m very happy with the new colour.

  • Beth

Wella T18 White Lady is fantastic! Leave it on for 30-45 minutes and it’ll be perfect everytime. :)

  • Karli

    Hey There,
So I used the same Wella toner after bleaching last week, and I put it on for 30 minutes, big mistake! I was already so light, and my hair is SO gray! How long did it take you and approx. how many washes before it faded? It’s an ashy gray, and is there any other methods you used?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Faux Blondes

    Hi Karli,

I only left it in about 10 minutes max, not the 30 minutes as stated. It means your hair is very porous, so it will wash out after a few shampoos. It’s best to use a clarifying shampoo to remove the excess of the toner. But it will wash out, so don’t worry about it. It sounds like your hair is very light, much lighter than my bleached hair so I’d recommend you to use a Roux Fanciful Rinse in White Minx instead of using a toner to achieve lovely platinum shade. I hope that helped. Keep me tuned.

  • Melody

I used the Ivory Lady on my bleached pale blond hair, left it in for 30 minutes and now it a weird grayish color. Should I do the same thing you suggested above?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Faux Blondes

    Hi Melody,
Yes, just shampoo out your color a few times and then the greyish tones will lift out and the color will turn out a beautiful shade, hopefully. When you do your root touch ups, only use Ivory Lady on the bleached roots but NOT on your middle and ends. Use Roux Fancifull Rinse instead to tone your hair overall between root touch ups and to maintain your overall color.

  • Laura

    Hi,
I have had my hair professionally bleached but there are still some light brown bits through it and isn’t quite light enough, can i use this toner to gradually lighten my hair? how often can you tone?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Faux Blondes

For those light brown bits, they needed to be bleached as well. You can have these bleached the next time you go in the salon. Another way to gradually lighten them is to use a shampoo and conditioner that lightens hair. Toner is recommended for between touch ups on the roots. For in between salon visits, I highly recommend either Roux Fanci-Full Rinse or John Frieda Color Renew Tone-Restoring line.

  • Chandra

I recently bleached out my hair with bleach U I bought from Sally’s. My hair already had highlights and is natuarlly medium to dark brown. The highlighted part turned out white and the rest a pale to yellowish color. So I used wella white lady and some parts of my hair grabbed and it had a purple tint to it. The purple faded but it looks brassy still. What shouldn I do. I really just wanted a nice pale blonde but no yellow. Like a pale goldish blonde…what should I do?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

    Hi Chandra,
You said that after you bleached your hair, your highlights turned white while the rest of your base turned yellowish. How yellowish was it before you use Wella White Lady toner? Maybe the yellowish parts are actually darker than yellow, maybe more of a goldish color. Gold and banana yellow are different levels. If your hair has any goldish undertones, then Wella White Lady will only make these parts look darker blonde, not lifting them to a pale blonde because it’s a toner, not high lift color. That sounded like the case without seeing a picture. I would highly recommend you to bleach only the darker pieces without touching the highlights. After you are done with re-bleaching ONLY the darker pieces, then use a purple shampoo of your choice to tone down any brassiness. Let me know how it goes.

  • Kassady

Ok so im going to bleach my hair tomorrow and i bought Ivory Lady toner, but could not find Quick & Blue Bleach which i have heard is the best type. Will just any bleach from a salon work?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

    Hi Kassady,
Yes, any bleach from salon would work. Wishing you the best of luck with your new hair color! Ivory Lady toner is so pretty. =)

  • Chloe

I just bleached my hair for the 2nd time yesterday (i have naturally dark brown hair) and it still isn’t as light as i’d like it to be, so I’m going to bleach again. My hair is already pretty dry and thin though and I’m afraid the 3rd bleach will make it fall out :( either that or it will be in such a bad condition that i’ll never repair itself. Its also long and easily tangles. Do you have any suggestions on how i can strengthen and moisturize it before (and after) i do my 3rd and final bleach? Thanks in advance :)

  • Monica

I need help! I’ve always dyed my own hair with Wella Color Charm and have never attempted bleaching for lift, other than for highlights and usually hated the orange spongy-haired results. Now, for around the last 10 years, I’ve gradually gone lighter from 511/5N all the way up to the 1200/12N, always staying within the Neutral range to avoid brassy tones. When I started going lighter I gradually mixed 30vol. to the 20vol. cream developer. Back then my hair had very little gray. In the last 2 years, my hair has naturally turned mostly a wonderful white-silver with pockets of silver-gray, but the rest of the old growth of my long hair is still a mix of a more beige blond. With root touch ups it all blends in, except for a stubborn small patch that’s still more brownish that’s underneath in the back above the nape of my neck. My hair has the look of a mixed/highlighted job, it’s how the lighter blonds have gotten grabbed by my hair of today. yikes! It doesn’t look bad, but I’d rather have less colors.

My problem is that I would love to go all white-silver, like over 2/3 of the top, front and sides are already. I’d like to even out the more grayish areas to better blend with the lovely white-silver, but I’m not wanting to risk damaging my long hair (nearly to the waist) with bleaching, as often gray hair is dryer to begin with. I’ll be 60 in October and am ready to fully embrace my silver hair, I don’t want to fight the fight and be a brunette forever…one with white roots. ewww
I’ve read here of the toners that I’ve always wondered about. Are they a step before a color or just after a bleaching? How are they meant to be used, in what order? I’m also confused as to which toner promotes which effect of grays, etc — T14 vs T18…???
    Any suggestions?
    Do those shampoos really help?

  • Misty

Heyyy =) I just bleached my dark brown hair yesterday and then i used lots of virgin olive oil in it and then i bleached it again today and its mostly banana-ish yellow but still has spots of orange. How can I get rid of those? Also, my hair is starting to fall out a lil bit (not much) but how can i get it healthy enough so that i can bleach it again tomorrow morning?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Misty, sorry I was away for a while. I hope that you didn’t do any further until this message. Your hair needs a lot of moisture and conditioning. You need to use intensive treatment for super dry hair and to prevent further breakage and before you re-bleach your hair. Your hair need to rest between bleachings and use an intensive moisturizing conditioner like Soft Sheen Optimum Care Anti Breakage Conditioner or similar product of your preference. Try using Zotos Hair Rescue Severage Breakage Kit, available at Sally Beauty or similar beauty supply shop. For people with super dark hair, it takes 2 to 3 bleachings to reach a pale blonde shade. But a toner will tone the light orangey parts to an ashy shade but make sure your hair’s fully banana yellow with bits of gold (light orangey yellow) before you’re able to use a toner. Please check back in.

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hello Monica, thanks for visiting FB! Gray hair is definitely different and trickier than natural hair due to different texture. Since you have used high lift colors to lift your hair to blonde over the years, not the lightener, so color doesn’t lift color if you try to use a lighter color on top of previous color. You may need to use a color remover/stripper on the bottom half of your hair where it’s a little darker before you can attempt using lighter color. T14 and T18 are toners so they may not work in your case because you didn’t use a lightener. Toners’ purpose is to tone the pre-bleached hair to very pale shade of blonde, not on high lifted or highlighted hair. T18 is White Lady so it’s definitely more white silver, the color you’re looking for, while T14 (Silver Lady) is darker and more gray/silver so avoid this one. You said you don’t want to use bleach, so I’m not sure how I can advise you in this case and highly recommend you to speak with a hairdresser. Purple shampoo work very well on pale blonde hair but it won’t really solve your current hair color mixture because it’s not all over color. Let me know on what you have decided on. Best wishes!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Chloe, how is it going? Sorry for no response in a while. May I suggest you to use Hair Rescue Severe Breakage Kit, available at Sally Beauty shop, and then follow with intensive moisturizing treatment like Soft Sheen Optimum Care Anti Breakage Conditioner or Paul Mitchell’s Super-Charged Moisturizer post bleaching job. Don’t moisturize on the day or the day prior to re-bleaching session. Bleaching job is very dry and damaging, so you will need to bring back the protein and moisture in your hair. For bringing back protein and strength to your bleached hair, use ApHogee 2-Step Protein Treatment and Balanced Moisturizer. Hope that helped and do let me know how it’s going.

Thank you so much for the advice! My hair is naturally a level 6 (dark blonde) so I was able to use Clairol 7th stage liquid with 2 activator packets and volume 20 peroxide developer. I left it on for 45 min. and my hair was in perfect condition and was a nice super pale yellow blonde! Yay!

I used the Ivory Lady with a 1:2 ratio 20 volume developer for 10 min on the first 2 inches of growth and 5 min. on the ends. The first few days its DARK, like a dark beige blonde. But THANK YOU to you, I didn’t panic and it’s now faded to a beautiful pale pearl blonde.

  • Billie

Do i have to use the wella developer for the toner? or can i use another brand, because i have a bottle of manic panic 40 volume cream devepoler, and a bottle of brentwood 30 volume liquid developer. would i be able to use either one of those?

  • http://facebook.com/ryannporteus Ryann

I bleached my hair last weekend and again this weekend and it didn’t change much from last week to this one.
I have the t-18 white lady toner, I keep seeing people saying they’re only keeping it in for 10 of the recommended 30, my hair is really light at the roots but has a golden color from the mid to ends. I just want to avoid the grey, I want white.

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Yes, you can use any brand of developer to use with the toner. I don’t use Wella developer either with the toner.

  • Chandra

So I did my hair again and it turned out very blonde…too white for me. So I went and bought that Ivory lady and left it on for about 10 min. Well, it ended up turning darker than I wanted. Is their a toner in between the ivory and white lady that would work for me for my next bleaching job. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done anything to my hair. It’s not in bad condition either. Just kind of dry but not too dry. Thanks :)

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Have patience…Ivory Lady will lighten after a few shampoos. It will turn out a lovely shade of blonde that’s not too white. There’s no in between color between White Lady or Ivory Lady. There used to be (Countess Blonde) but it was discontinued. =(

  • Jennifer

I bleached my hair twice already and it didn’t change too much from the first time I dyed it. its very light at the roots but has a goldish color to it from mid to ends. I bought wella’s T18 white lady but don’t know if I should put it in. I want my hair white almost but I’m not sure it’ll work on the goldish parts. Suggestions?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Depending how goldish it is. If it is very warm, then White Lady may not work but your roots only. I suggest you to either go darker to a level 9 blonde toner or re-bleach your mid to ends so they’re like pale banana color for the White Lady toner to work.

  • Lauren

So my hair has always been a white-platinuim blonde. I then 3 months ago decided to go to a reddish brown and hated it, so 3 days ago I bleached it, it had a ton of orange, so I bleached it again and my roots are white and my hair is yellow with a little orange in it still. This has NEVER happened and I’ve always dyed my own hair. I realized I forgot the toner, and when I went back grabbed the wrong one, I got the rubio suave 1200/12n (wella) and I do have a 10 an 20 developer … I just need to know if I should stop before I put this toner in…

  • Bethany

    Hi there,
I have naturally auburn hair that i have now dyed dark brown and i really want to achieve an ash blonde colour without getting any orange/brassy tones.
I have gone to the hairdressers before and had my hair stripped twice and then dyed ‘ash blonde/brown’ but it came out very ginger.
Is it a good idea for me to strip my hair, bleach it to light blonde and then dye ash blonde/brown on top of it?
    Thanks!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Lauren, the stubborn orange is a left over pigment from your reddish brown dye. Once you go reddish brown, it will take a while before your hair turn an ashy blonde again. There’s no other way you can become white platinum again but you can do a trick of the eye. You’re experiencing hot roots, hence, white roots which aren’t dyed and natural so they’re easier to bleach. You grabbed a 12n, which has a neutral base so I’d recommend you to get violet or ash based toner/color instead if you can return this one to the store. Violet based toners will cancel out the yellow and a bit of orange in your hair and create a lovely pale blonde shade. Violet-blue base is also good because the blue part will cancel out any gold or orangey bits. Hope the color turns out lovely for you!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Sounds like they didn’t remove enough of the dark brown color so you came out ginger as you said. Yes, it’s a good idea to strip your hair color again with a color stripper or remover to get the orange and whatever dark brown is there left out as much as possible. Don’t worry if your hair turns orangey or orangey gold, that is a good base to begin with and then use a bleach/lightener to lift the remaining underlying pigments in your color stripped hair until it is a yellow, yellow orangey, or yellow goldish color. Then color your hair with a permanent level 7n or 8n with 10 or 20 volume. In a few months your hair will become lighter and then you can maintain it by doing only root touch ups. I hope it helped.

  • http://none Alex

Hello! I dyed my hair platinum blonde three weeks ago but my roots are coming in now and they look really dark (even though I’m a strawberry blonde naturally). I want to touch-up my roots, but I’m not really sure how to do it. Should I do the same thing I did originally to bleach my hair? If so, should I only do it to the roots? What I did is as follows:

I used BW2 bleach with a 30 toner for 25 minutes. Rinse, deep condition and air dry. Two days later I used Wella White Lady with 20 toner for 7 minutes. Rinse, deep condition and air dry.

I’m looking for specific instructions on how to touch this up please! Also, I used White Lady before, but I wanted to try Ivory Lady this time…is there a reason I shouldn’t do this? If not, should the toner go on all of my hair (it looks a little brassy again).

    Thanks!!!

  • Brenda

My hair was a dark brown reddish color So I bleached my hair with L’Oréal quick blue 2x and it was very very Orange so I picked up some wella T18 toner to even it out and it didn’t work I don’t want to bleach again my roots are already really white help please I don’t know what to do and don’t want to walk around like this !!!!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

    Hi Alex,

To do root touch up, it is a little different than dyeing the rest of your hair because your hair already has been lightened unless you want to go lighter, then do the roots as the final step, not beforehand or experience really terrible case of “hot roots”. This is something I don’t have step by step but will be included in future posts. But there’s a video that you can check out and imitate her process of bleaching the roots at home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayesif6oXnc

I suggest you to separate your hair into 4 sections (2 at bottom, 2 at top) with clips or pins, whichever is convenient for you. Then when you focus on one section of hair, start with bottom sections first because they take longer to bleach compared to top sections of head for some reason, use a rattail or similar comb to separate the hair into smaller sections so you can control where the bleach goes when applied with a brush on the roots and not overlap with the already dyed/bleached strands. Overlapping is one of the main reason why the hair gets over processed if not done properly or neatly. Hope it helped.

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Wella T18 is too light for your hair. Your hair MUST be at least pale yellow or lightest banana yellow with bits of orange for it to work. It’s a toner, not a dye, which works differently. The toner will definitely work on your almost white roots.

Let’s concentrate on your orangey ends, NOT your roots. If you can, avoid your roots at all costs while you re-bleach your orangey ends until they are a light yellow or maybe yellow/gold at most. Don’t use Wella T18 but I highly recommend you to use Clairol Creme Toner in Towhead, which will turn your yellow/gold or yellow/orange hair into suitable shade of blonde because the violet/blue base will complement the yellow/orange underlying pigment from bleaching. Please be very careful with your application of the bleach so it doesn’t overlap with your lightened roots and use a reconstructor that moisturizes and repairs your hair in between bleachings. Hope it helped. Best wishes!

  • Brenda

Hello! I bleached my hair and it was kind of brassy. I went and purchased the T10 Ivory Lady. I left it on for 10 minutes and now my hair is kind of grey/lavender. Will it wash out and about how many shampoos? I wash my hair everyday. Thank you!!

  • Brenda

Hi! I applied the Ivory Lady toner and it turned my hair gray/lavender. I mixed lemon juice with conditioner, towel dried it, then blow dried it. I then rinsed with pure lemon juice and left it all night. The next morning, my hair was so blonde! All the gray/lavender was gone! Also, my hair was so soft. Highly reccomend doing this if you’re having the same problem.

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Brenda, I’m glad that you had a great success with your hair after using Ivory Lady. As I have mentioned before, most of the time toners will turn your hair grey/lavender to counteract the yellow/brass hair, tricking the eye to make it look darker than normal but in reality it just neutralizes the yellow/orange undertones. But after several uses of clarifying shampoo, it will lighten up and turn into a beautiful pale blonde. Thanks for the tip on lemon juice, I heard that it helps with lightening your hair naturally but it doesn’t really tone down the yellowish undertones or lighten up that much on some people. I’m glad it worked out for you! :)

I’ve recently decided to go from jet black hair(from a Box) that I’ve had for about 3 years now to the platinum blonde you get from ivory lady. it’s the first day and I’ve used 2 hair strippers and went through 2 full bleaching, but i can’t seem to get this carrot-colored orange out of my hair. this is my first time using bleach and toners so I’m not rly sure, can i use the Toner ivory lady to get this orange out of my hair? my roots closest to my scalp i swear are snow white while just and inch away is the pale-banna colored yellow. while the rest is pretty orange. how can i get rid of this orange effectively without bleaching my white roots? (they are already to white for my tastes) the 2nd bleaching didn’t do anything for the orange.. it’s getting frustrating.

  • Amy S

Hello! I have naturally dark/sandy blonde hair. I have been coloring my hair myself for years. I usually go with a champagne color, that always works well for me. However, I decided I wanted to go a shade darker. So, I stepped it up to the Loreal Medium Blonde. I left it on for about 20 – 25 min. The result was way too dark. So, I went to our local beauty supply store and talked with one of their professionals. I told her it was too dark and asked for any tips. She stated I needed to put a toner in it to take away the drastic look to it. She set me up with the Wella Color Charm in Beige T27 and the Salon Care 10 Volume Creme. She told me how to mix it and I followed her instructions. I left it in for about 15 minutes and rinsed it out, thoroughly. I’m so disappointed. My result is even darker than before. I look like a brunette. :( Please help! Is there anything that I can do to take out this dark tint to it? Thank-you so much!

  • selina

hello i have dark brown hair .. i wanted to get blondish peekaboos in my hair so i bleached two pieces. it its now light brown/copper red color the roots of my hair is a light brown/blonde.

Will a toner like ivory lady calm down the color and make it blonde?

If i wanted to dye my hair to a light golden brown can i achieve it with a permanent hair color and mixing it with a 30 developer?

    thanks so much!!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Josh, I’m sorry you’re not getting the result you want with your hair. However, based on your process, 2 times out of 3 going to pale blonde from dyed black hair is not possible without incurring a lot of damage in one or two sittings. It’s expected to get orange hair even after using a hair stripper and bleaching. It sounded like the dye you used to dye your hair black may have metallic salt or something like that, causing your hair to discolor like that even after using the hair color remover or bleach. It means your ends are probably over porous and over processed, hence, the difficulty of getting out the orange. You have two choices: 1) tone your hair a darker blonde like a level 8 or 9 blonde such as Clairol Creme Toner Towhead (which will turn the carrot orange or any other shade of orange into darker neutral or warm blonde) or 2) see a hair color pro to deal with the stubborn shade of orange with better quality products they have access to and maybe a trim to get rid of damaged ends. Regardless of the choice you make, let’s take the blonde gradually from where you are at now to a few shades lighter a few months later. It’s possible without too much damage. Best of luck!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi Amy, I’m sorry you’re not happy with your hair color. She shouldn’t have told you to dye your hair on the top of color you did yourself. That causes color build up, hence, making your hair even look darker! Color doesn’t lighten color. To dye on a clean slate of hair, I would recommend you to use a color stripper/remover to get rid of both colors you had in your hair. Don’t panic if your hair turns orange or maybe orange/gold, depending your original underlying pigment. But before you do this, you said you want to go a shade darker. I’m not sure what color did you have in mind? That’s darker than champagne? Like a light brown that’s sort of like milky or caramel brown?

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi there. Since you only lighten your pieces to a darkish gold color with bleach, it’s not advised to use Ivory Lady on them because it only works on hair that’s lightened to a pale yellow or maybe light banana yellow at most. On a darker bleached hair it probably does nothing or not showing at all. I’d recommend you to lighten the light brown/copper red parts to match the goldish color you got with roots. Then you can tint your hair with light brown hair which will tone them nicely. Don’t use 30 volume developer unless the dye specifically says so. With bleached hair pieces it’s normally not a good idea to use a 30 volume because it’s designed for natural hair (not dyed) that’s already light and is used as a high lift color which would takes longer time to process the color. Go with 20 or 10 volume developer. Best of luck!

  • Amy S

Hello Amy! Thanks so much for giving me some tips. :) I’m so terrified to do anything else to it, as of now. Lol! To answer your question, I wanted to go a bit more dark blonde than what the champagne shade does for me. So, I went to the next shade darker, which was the medium blonde shade. After applying the medium blond shade, It made my hair a darker shade of blonde than what I had in mind. The next day, I went to our local beauty supply store and asked a “pro” about how to ligthen it just a bit and she “hooked” me with the toner – the Wella Color Charm in beige. I am still wishing I would’ve just left it alone and not put the toner that the beauty “pro” at the shop recommended to me. I would’ve survived the darker blonde results from coloring my hair the medium blonde shade. (Lesson learned for me!) Could I ask some questions? Will this toner eventually wash or fade out? If it does, will it make the medium blonde color I applied previously look terrible? Also, I had a friend of mine recommend that I use some of the blonde lightening shampoos and conditioners or creams … but, I’m not sure about them. I’m scared I will look like a clown. I may need to just leave it alone, for now. I appreciate your help, so much! :)

Hey so i bleached my hair yesterday. i had dark brown hair color in it over my previous bright red. after i bleached it my roots are white. and i have orange pinkish tones in it now. i bought that ivory lady T10 stuff. should i use that..? ive also read on different website to use an ash blonde color on it. What do you think i should do?

  • Kelly

Reading all these comments has been so helpful, but I do need some more advice I think! I bleached my dyed black hair (naturally a mouse-y brown) three times in the last week, which I know was not my best idea. The length of my hair is now a pale orange, with some strands a golden blonde. But not inside or outside of a banana yellow. My roots are pale yellow, even though I did them last and thought I had been quick with them. I have no desire to be a platinum blonde, maybe something like the ends of Lauren Conrad’s hair in this picture http://www.hairspotlight.com/images/lauren-long-hairstyle.jpg I think I should use a color charm dye instead of a toner, right? What level should I go with, and I want something with a blue base and maybe some violet to cancel the orange and whatever yellow is in there, yes? I also will add a few drops of Ardell Red/Gold Color Corrector, I’ve heard that eliminates brassiness.

And because my roots are lighter, should I use a 10 developer with the dye instead of the 30 that I plan to use on the length of my hair?

    Thanks so much in advance!

  • http://www.fauxblondes.com Amy

Hi there, you’ve done a lot to your hair so I’d say to go with an ash based hair dye, perhaps level 8 that will tone down the golden blonde and pale orange. Try Wella Color Charm #882 which is a Light Smokey Ash Blonde, which is probably as close as Lauren Conrad’s color although I could tell she has highlights. Use 20 volume if you can’t access 10 volume. 10 volume is more gentle but will deposit the color much more rather than lift. Best of wishes!
